KANA EXTENDED-B / ARCHAIC HIRAGANA

Minnan kana and archaic WU.

Thirteen Minnan tone letters, two combining marks, and a revised archaic WU extend the historical-kana repertoire. The full font now contains 17,053 encoded characters.

The thirteen tone letters

FRB Taiwanese Kana supplies the outlines. Each tone has a half-em advance in horizontal text. In vertical text it sits to the right of the preceding kana group.

Read in both directions

The reading of 恬恬聽 uses an overline, a dot below, and two tone letters. Small kana receive a shorter overline with the same stroke thickness.

Vertical setting

Use upright kana at their default fullwidth advance, zero letter spacing, and generous column spacing. Tone placement handles groups of one to four kana. A space, punctuation, or preceding tone ends the group.

Ruby annotations

Keep each syllable in its own ruby annotation. The font does not infer syllable boundaries or convert ordinary text into Taiwanese kana. Longer or tightly spaced groups need application-level positioning.

Archaic hiragana WU U+1B11F

The curved form is the default. Stylistic set 1, “Hooked WU”, selects a broad outward bow flowing through a compact drawn return. Both stems begin inside the upper bar and retain U+1B11F.
